Mr. Nelson graduated from Union College with honors in Economics. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Albany Law Review at Albany Law School where he earned his degree in law.

He serves as firm attorney to the Planning Boards of the Towns of Pleasant Valley and Milan, and special counsel to the City of Poughkeepsie. He is also the partner primarily engaged in the firm's representation of the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency, a public benefit corporation which operates a waste-to-energy facility serving Dutchess County.

He has actively litigated defamation and access issues for the media, as well as cell and radio broadcast tower issues, in the New York State and Federal courts. His extensive experience includes litigating matters pertaining to planning and zoning, the environment, secured lending, bankruptcy and personal injury. 

Mr. Nelson is a member of the Dutchess County Planning Advisory Board, and is active in other community and volunteer efforts. He is admitted to practice in all New York State and Federal Courts.
